SOLAPUR: The importance of Solapur (Maharashtra) is unique in the history of India in the sense that this district enjoyed the freedom even before independence. The special feature of the Solapur is Lord Shivayogi Shri Siddharameshwar, Who is the chief deity of the city. Lord Siddharameshwara was a yogi who attained divinity through his service to society. He believed in “Duty is Deity”. He was a great mystic and Kannada poet and written 68,000 dictims (vachanas). He has also consecrated 68 shivlingas and Asthavinayak in the Panchkroshi of Solapur. In 12th century, he constructed the lake with the help of devotees to solve the drinking water problem of society. With the holy blessing of Lord Siddharameshwara, now Solapur becomes Abhinav Shrishail, one of the pious place in Maharastra.

The first founder president Honourable Late. Bandappa Kadadi formed charitable trust to maintain the siddheshwar temple before independance. This trust is known as Shri Siddheshwar Devasthan Panch Committee, Solapur. The trust has been contributing his hands in Social, educational, religious work for the welfare of the society. Later in 1958 Shri M.B. alies Karmyogi Appasaheb Kadadi, Who is the son of Late Bandappa Kadadi, became president of the trust. He was great freedom fighter, true patriot and a visionary leader. He was the moving spirit behind the numours religious, social, educational, co-operative and medical institues. We are giving here overview of all the institutions run by Shri Siddheshwar Devasthan, Solapur.

Shri Siddheshwar Devasthan Educational Hub

Education is a foundation for the development and progress of any society. It is a base upon which the whole building of human development stands. Keeping this aim in mind, Karmyogi Appasaheb Kadadi, president of Shri Siddheshwar Devasthan established Education hub for those people who are poor and drowntroden from the various community. The trust provides KG to PG education on different mediums like Marathi, Kannada and English. Near about 14 schools and two colleges named Shri Siddheshwar Womens Polytechnic and Shri Siddheshwar Womens’ Engineering College, specially unique for womens empowerment. Now at present more than 8000 students are learning in this Hub.

Shri Siddheshwar Boarding and Women's Hostel

The trust works to impact the lives of children from orphan and poor families. To bring them into the flow of education, the trust started Boarding for poor students and ladies' hostels for poor girls. Especially the students from rural areas are admitted to the boarding. Now many students avail of this facility.

Shri Siddheshwar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre

The first aim of cancer treatment is to achieve a cure, and when a cure is not possible, good palliation is warranted. To provide this facility to cancer patients, Karmyogi Appasaheb Kadadi established a cancer hospital through Devasthan Trust in 1978. It is known as Shri Siddheshwar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre. This hospital served 50 outdoor patients a day and accommodates 25 indoor patients. Shri Siddheshwar Yatric Niwas & Dasoha

Considering the heavy influx of devotees from Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andra Pradesh, the trust wish to give atmost priority to the accommodation and free meal to devotees of Lord Siddharameshwara. Every day more than 200 devotees take prasad (free meal) in Dasoha.

Shri Siddheshwar Gadda Yatra (Fair)

Shri Siddharameshwar was a saint of the 12th century whose “Karmyoga” on his own native land-Solapur turned him into a God-figure over the course of time. With the name of Lord Siddheshwara, every year Gadda Yatra is celebrated in the month of January. There is story behind to celebrate the yatra or fair. Inspired by teachings of Lord Siddheshwara, a young girl, Kumbhar Kanya wished to marry him but be denied the offer, instead giving her permission, to marry his yogadanda means yoga-stick. One of the prominent celebrations during this yatra commemorates this wedding, where in the Nandi Dhwajas (decorated bamboo poles) are presumed to be the bridge and groom and taken out in a procession. Some other rituals performed during the festival include Tailabhishek, Akshata, Hom and Fireworks.
